The Calculated Survival Bug-Out Bag Contains:

Bugging out” has been turned into a catch phrase that represents a survival tactic in the case of an emergency situation where someone must evacuate their current location for an extended period of time. To the novice, it is thought of as an end-all solution, however, it is not meant to be implemented as a long-term plan.

Bugging out is the act of exiting point “A” for one reason or another (for example in the case of natural disasters, environmental/biological hazards, or civil unrest) in an effort to make it safely to alternate location, point “B” (assuming that point “B” is safe from the hazards rendering point “A” unsafe). Getting to point “B” requires being able to survive the journey. The journey may require navigational equipment, shelter, food, water, first aid, even frickin’ toilet paper, and the list goes on…

In most cases, having a Bug-out Bag means having the tools you need for emergency survival when they are needed the most:

  • Around the house: The first aid kit included in our Bug-out Bag has 2 20g packets of BleedStop along with many other items to stop bleeding and aid in medical treatment. One such testimonial from a customer stated that he cut himself with a gasoline-powered chainsaw when he was a long distance away from the hospital but having the Calculated Survival First Aid Kit nearby likely saved his life.
  • Travel: Due to nature’s tendencies or as the result of major storms, trees tend to have an annoying tendency to block roadways. Having a pocket chainsaw and Kukri machete to clear your path towards home or point “B” means that you are less at the mercy of nature and more in control of your destiny.

For these reasons and many more, keeping a Bug-Out Bag nearby whether at home, work, or in your vehicle puts you in control of your FATE and less at the mercy of your environment.

Descriptions of items included in the kit:

Tan Rucksack: Our provided rucksack is made of 1000D Nylon and is water resistant. All the included pockets and compartments makes packing, organizing and carrying your gear easy.

Signaling Items: We included multiple items that can aid you in signaling for help if it becomes necessary. A whistle with built-in compass to help signal for help. A small signal mirror to also aid you in signaling for aerial help. We also included the TrustFire MC1 flashlight which is USB rechargeable, has 3 settings from 1,000 lumens to 15 lumens, is waterproof, has a strobe feature, and a magnetic back. It also comes with a clip so you can attach it to your hat or clothing to act like a headlight. The most lifesaving quality of this flashlight is its beacon/strobe quality. This flashlight, when equipped with our dispersion tube, acts like a high powered beacon so if you ever get lost, trapped, or in a vehicle accident, rescuers can quickly find you.

Basic Land Navigation Kit: Our basic land navigation kit consists of a protractor, compass, watch, and pace count beads (or Ranger beads). Just add a pencil and applicable map and off you go. Our protractor is scaled for 1/25,000 meters, 1/50,000 meters, 1/100,000 meters, and 1/250,000 meters. Our compass has 360 degrees for accurate navigating. Our handmade pace count/Ranger beads are able to easily slide for accurately counting your pace. The watch can be used to both determine your direction (using the watch method) and as a quicker way to count your pace. Using our kit, you are able to know your direction and distance to find your destination every time.

Medical Supplies: The Calculated Survival First Aid Kit fits in your pocket to keep you alive when faced with possible life threatening emergencies. Our First Aid Kit is able to handle medical problems from allergies and headaches to being able to stop heavy bleeding. The First Aid Kit is about the same size as a wallet with dimensions of: 4 1/2" x 3 3/8" x 7/8" and includes: 10 Alcohol wipes (70% isopropyl alcohol), 10 Ibuprofen packets (200 mg tablets, 2 per packet), 6 Small bandages (fabric, latex free bandages), 10 Butterfly stitches (latex free), 2 Diphenhydramine packets (antihistamine, 1 caplet per packet, 25mg of Diphenhydramine HCl), 1 Triple Antibiotic Ointment (active ingredients: Bacitracin Zinc, Neomycin Sulfate, Polymyxin-B Sulfate), 2 BleedStop packets (20 grams). With this first aid kit in your pack, you can go into the woods with the confidence and tools to handle common injury situations with ease. In addition to the Calculated Survival First Aid Kit, we also included a package of emergency bandages. We included an additional all-in-one bandage both covers an open wound in gauze and adds pressure to the area as well (a.k.a. “The Israeli Bandage”.)

Toiletry Bag: A grey canvas bag with 3 packs of tissues (with 10 tissues in each pack) and 20 Fresh-Nap wet wipes. If you don’t know why this bag would be important… you will quickly. Why do we include packs of tissues and not a roll of toilet paper? Well, imagine if the items inside your Bug-out Bag get wet. Your toilet paper roll would be useless after one downpour, but since all the packs separated by plastic, even if you have one open, the remainder will be unharmed.

Electronics: Included in the Bug-out Bag is our Calculated Survival Portable Solar Power Bank. Our 20,000mAh portable solar power bank has a built-in USB-A input cable, USB-C output cable, and lightning output cable. Equipped with 15W Qi wireless fast charging. There is no reason to bring any additional charging cables which aids in its portability. In addition, it also has a USB output port and USB-C output/input port. The best part about this solar power bank is that you can charge it traditionally through an outlet or by the sun using the 4 foldable solar panels. This allows you to charge the power bank even in the middle of the wilderness. The solar power input is 16W and the input current is 1.68 A. The conversion rate of solar charging can reach 118% of the charging speed of a 1A plug. As long as there is sunshine, it will charge. The power bank supports QC3.0 and 2.0 protocols fast charging, and supports input fast charging. Built in to the power bank is a 680 lumens flashlight that has a range of 200M and has a pre-programmed SOS distress signal setting. The mobile power bank has a waterproof rating of up to ip67, and is drop and dust resistant allowing it to work normally even in extreme environments. The included power adaptor enables you the ability to adapt power from a car’s cigarette lighter or a standard American outlet to standard USB. It aids you in being able to keep your modern devices full and ready for use throughout your bug-out journey.

Fire Starting: We’ve included our Calculated Survival Waterproof Rechargeable Plasma Lighter which produces flame-yielding plasma for up to 1 hour or 300 uses on a single charge. It is made out of zinc, aluminum, and polypropylene with a lithium polymer 220mAh battery. A magnesium and ferrocerium Firestarter is also included to be able to start a fire to keep you warm and cook your food, even boil water. When it comes to such an important part of your survival/bugout plan, redundancy is key. That’s why we’ve also included a bic lighter, a 6 inch long 1/2 inch thick hexagonal ferro rod, and a tinder rope. And because we love redundancy so much, there is also a tinder strand inside the provided paracord that can easily be lit with a ferro rod after being frayed.

Shelter Building: Packed into the Bug-out Bag are multiple shelter building tools to help keep you dry, warm, and off the ground. Calculated Survival's Emergency Mylar Poncho is one of the most effective solutions to prevent hypothermia during any emergency situation. The NASA designed space blanket material is capable of retaining up to 90% of your body heat. The reusable and reversable poncho is 26 micron thick and stretchable. The Calculated Survival Mylar Emergency Tube Tent keeps you dry, warm and alive in extreme conditions. The two layers of extra thick stretchable polyethylene and highly reflective mylar make this tube tent waterproof and windproof. It is capable of sheltering up to 2 people. Engineered to be your layer of protection against harsh weather, the interior reflects up to 90% of your body heat keeping your warm, dry, and protected from the elements. The poncho liner or woobie in the woodland camo color has a nylon shell with polyester filling for warmth and measures approximately 92 inches by 63 inches. The woobie is a great blanket/companion for moderate cold weather and warmer. Sleeping on the ground draws thermal energy from your body. That’s why we’ve included this super strong net hammock to keep you off the ground and decrease your chances of exposure. And when paired up with the mylar tube tent and woobie, it’s surprisingly warm. We included 50ft. of survival/parachute cord that has fishing line and a waterproof tinder strand in the cord itself, simply pull it out to use. We also included a Calculated Survival Beanie to keep your head and ears warm on chillier days and nights. The beanie is made out of 100% acrylic with knit construction designed to stretch for the perfect fit. It has a double-layer design for extra warmth and comfort.

Food and Supplies: The Bug-out Bag provides enough calories to comfortably sustain you for the first 72 hours of bugging out. The S.O.S Emergency Food Rations contains 9 servings / biscuits of 410 calories each. Each biscuit contains 54 grams of Carbs, 6 grams of protein, and 28 grams of fat. They are vacuum sealed in a waterproof plastic wrap that will last for years until opened. The taste and texture can be best described as similar to a biscotti cookie. We included 3 packs of All Sport Zero electrolyte packs, one of each flavor: fruit punch, blue raspberry, and lemon lime. Not only does it provide electrolyte replenishment to stave off dehydration but also provides a source of vitamins B and C as well as potassium. Finding water is one thing, making it drinkable is another. That’s why we included this gravity filtration system. Capable of filtering 1,321 gallons and able to store 3 liters while acting as an active bladder system makes this item a lifesaver.

Fishing Kit: Encased in a black plastic container that floats when closed and can double as a handline. Inside is a 150-foot spool of 30lb test (6lb diameter) braided fishing line. Integrated into the spool are also 2 standard sewing needles. Because having a way to repair or modify your gear is essential to any trek into the unknown. We also included 2 bobbers and 2 jigs (sometimes bait can be hard to find) along with 15 fishing hooks of varying sizes. There is even enough room in this kit to add one or two of your favorite lures as well.

Cutting Tools: We provide 3 different tools which can be used in a pinch to remove trees and aid in other functions such as shelter building. Our 33-teeth 24 inch long pocket chainsaw is a game changer when it comes to shelter building or firewood gathering. Weighing in at just 5 ounces, this pocket chainsaw will raise your survivability and capability in the wilderness. Capable of cutting 6" thick trees, this pocket chainsaw is a must for your survival or hunting pack. Also included is Cold Steel's Kudu Lite 4 1/4" folding knife made of 5CR15MOV steel for smaller cutting projects that require more dexterity. Lastly, we also included the Cold Steel Kukri Machete which is made of 1055 High Carbon steel. This kukri machete is great for medium to large cutting and chopping tasks. It has decent forward weight for chopping and a great grip. The sheath allows for comfortable belt carry and holds the machete securely.

Garbage Bag: We provide you with a heavy duty 3 mil and 42-gallon volume contractor bag. It can be used for a various number of purposes, including: waterproofing your bug-out bag and gear, shelter building, rain/water collection, being used as a bear bag, and caching.

Beneath the perfect surface
Format: Kindle
Yesteryear completely caught me off guard in the best possible way. What begins as a fascinating look into social media influence, curated perfection, and historical living slowly unfolds into something far deeper and far more emotional than I expected. The storytelling was incredibly well done, especially the way the author balanced the polished modern influencer world against the harsh realities of 1800s frontier life. The transitions between timelines and perspectives were seamless, and by the end, every piece fit together in a way that completely redefined the story. What made this especially compelling for me was how layered Natalie’s character felt. Her upbringing, family expectations, faith, public image, and the pressure to maintain perfection all shaped the choices she made throughout the story. Rather than feeling one-dimensional, she felt like someone slowly buckling under the weight of everything she believed she was supposed to be. The emotional impact of this book surprised me. Beneath the historical elements and social media commentary is a story about identity, appearances, family, and the toll that constant performance can take on a person and those around them. This is one of those books where the less you know going in, the better the experience will be. I expected an entertaining premise, but I ended up with a story that lingered long after I finished the final page.

About that twist…
Format: Kindle
SPOILER ALERT! The thing about big, improbable twists in stories is that the less time you have to think about them, the better their effect. For fans of the classic TV show The Twilight Zone, it has always been clear that the half-hour shows were far better and far more punchy and memorable than their rather sad hour-long cousins. And a book has far, far more time to contemplate a twist than a TV show. Unfortunately, despite some pointed observations by the author (narcissistic people are pretty much unlikable, cruelty and brutality give power to weak men, abused children very often cling to their abusers), the big, improbable twist in Yesteryear almost completely sinks the story. The twist is the same one that sank M. Night Shyamalan’s 2004 movie The Village, and it fares no better here. Yes, people can and do live off the grid. But avoiding every single sign of civilization for years on end? Even if you’re not in a commercial flight path, there are such things as helicopters and small private planes, especially in remote areas. Perhaps people rarely stray onto private land in the wilderness, but once in a while, stray they do. And when that wilderness home was once widely publicized? Excuse me, but people are going to look for it. This is all not to say that Yesteryear was not entertaining - it was. I read it in one sitting. The characters, as unlikable and unreliable as they are, were well drawn. A couple of the children were also quite believable, but the author’s excuse for the rest of the kids being cyphers was that their mother saw them as cyphers as well. Okay, that’s fair, but knowing them better would have enhanced the story for the reader. This is certainly a promising book. It held my attention and was very well-written. But that twist - well, it sank M. Night Shyamalan, too.

Good read
Format: Hardcover
This book has been getting a lot of hype, and I can understand why. First, it is a very unique storyline. Very different plot. Second, the main character, Natalie, is totally unlikable. In fact, I would honestly say I loathed her. She has no likeable qualities whatsoever. I guess that is what makes you want to keep reading, to find out what happens to this nasty woman. That said, I admit I was confused at the end. I am still not sure what exactly happened to Natalie, how the situation came about, and how 10 years went by when Natalie seemed to only be telling a few months time. Was she delusional? Did she have a mental breakdown? I wish it was more clear as to what exactly happened.

What did i spend so much time reading??
Format: Kindle
Spoilers ahead This book makes me angry. A misogynistic fable that holds women as mothers as inherently either deeply flawed or as if some fairy tale perfect mother exists. I found the early parts of the novel quite funny. Thinking this poor woman why do people expect such crazy standards? Also social media influencers somehow we are to take for reality? It is entertaining and that's why we want to spend our time looking at it. It is a fantasy world. Yet that is somehow turned from something comical and poignant dissolving into madness where there can be a 16 year old that can take away your children for what I'm not sure. Filming them? Having nannies? And then again the next bunch for living off the grid? I get that this isn't going for realism. It ultimately became for me this poorly written satire maybe? Obviously what started as comically intriguing for me descended into one totally crazy crazy turn to the darkest of places. I recognize this was supposed to be some sort of cracked fairytale where nearly everyone is evil and/or mental but 30 years for child abuse? This is like a nightmare not a thriller. The book demonstrates a hatred for mothers. Just awful! It made me crave for a totally unrealistic thriller. I came to be entertained and left pissed off.

Excellent satire of tradition cult
Format: Kindle
I read this book in two days. I was eager to read it once I read the description in a Facebook post. I am a theologically conservative Christian frustrated with the tradition culture that has co-opted the faith. I see this in my social and social media circles quite a bit, and I was intrigued by a novel that took this movement to task. Furthermore, I truly enjoy well done satire and farce. I have had a hard time finding these works written well in the past, so I was bracing myself to be disappointed. I am thankful to say, I wasn’t. I didn’t expect the novel to go the way it did (and no, I won’t post spoilers), but I literally laughed out loud a several points. Let me compliment the author for one particular point: She doesn’t just blast the “tradwife” movement. Plenty of cultural movements and groups of people have their sins exploited. Rather than shooting a 12-gauge at religious conservatives, she takes a Tommy gun and hits a wide range of systems. I do want to warn squeamish readers about another issue: The novel can be quite graphic at times, explicitly detailing the intimacy struggles with the main couple. It borders on the pornographic side, but not for titillation. It’s meant to show the dysfunction in the supposedly happy couple. There were quite a few humorous moments, such as the protagonist enjoying the sounds of the chickens, only to grow wistful about their impending deaths so she can taste chicken broth. Or the protagonist’s evangelical mother reacting to her son-in-law’s purchase of a yoga mat.  I was a little disappointed in the resolution of the central issue, i.e., the time travel. But overall, the novel was an enjoyable read and worth your time.
